Available: One (commencing
from September 2026)
Commitment: 25-27 days per annum (possibly up to
30 days). The majority of the work falls between mid-January to the end of June
at present, with members required to attend a one-day meeting in most weeks in
this period. However, this can vary. In
some years, the Review Bodies have sat in the autumn as well. Currently, the
Chair of the PRRB also serves as an ex-officio member of the Review Body on
Senior Salaries (SSRB), given the SSRB's responsibility for making
recommendations on the pay of chief police officers. [1] If
required, the level of commitment for SSRB ex-officio membership is
approximately 20 days per annum, usually falling between September and June.

Purpose:
The
Chair is tasked with specific responsibility for providing strategic leadership
and direction to the Review Bodies, ensuring that they fulfil their functions
as public bodies. You will be responsible for the successful running of the
Review Bodies and overseeing the delivery of high-quality recommendations in
the requisite timeframe.
The
duties of the Chair include, but are not limited to:

Leading
the work of the Review Bodies in a way that deals comprehensively with the
matters that have been referred; where necessary challenging existing
assumptions; making effective use of the skills and expertise of the other
members of the Bodies; and providing effective challenge to the evidence and
representations that are submitted to the Review Bodies by the wide range of
parties involved.

Shaping
the development of the Review Bodies’ response to remit letters from the
Secretary of State and their terms of reference, including analysing written
and oral evidence from the parties, reaching decisions, and formulating
recommendations and reports.

Effective
management of stakeholder relationships, recognising their differing roles,
priorities and perspectives.

Effectively
chairing meetings of the Review Bodies, including oral evidence sessions with
stakeholders.

SSRB also makes recommendations on the pay of senior civil servants, salaried
judicial office holders, and senior managers in the NHS.
