Welcome Note from Dr Gillian Fairfield, Chairman
of the Disclosure of Barring Service
Dear Applicant,
Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the Disclosure and
Barring Service (DBS), a Non-Executive Director (NED) position on our Board.
The DBS is a non-departmental public body of the Home Office. It provides
disclosure and barring functions for the workplace and voluntary sector.
Protecting the public by helping employers make safer recruitment and
employment decisions, and by barring individuals who pose a risk to vulnerable
people is the central driver for all that we do within DBS.
The Government’s focus on economic growth, crime prevention and
rehabilitation means we are also focused on providing improved value for money
and continue to improve our products and services to both protect the
vulnerable and enable people to safely enter employment.
We are now recruiting for a new member to join the DBS Board as a NED and
help steer the organisation through an exciting period of transformation and
change enabled through replacement of legacy technology. You will have
experience of the following areas: senior leadership experience in the
Commercial Sector; Leading Change; Information Technology, Artificial
Intelligence and Cyber Security; Leading in an Agile Delivery environment; and
shaping development of the customer journey.
Importantly you will enjoy leading organisations through complex issues
and will have the ability to constructively challenge and influence strategy
and decision making. You will understand and be committed to our vision and
will relish the opportunity to continue to set the strategic direction of the
DBS, protecting
the public by helping employers make safer recruitment decisions and by barring
individuals who pose a risk to vulnerable groups from working in certain roles.
If you are motivated to play a key role in helping the DBS effectively
discharge its functions and thereby protect vulnerable groups, then I look
forward to hearing from you and wish you the very best of luck with your
application.
