Candidates must be able
to demonstrate all of the following essential criteria:
1. Knowledge of the
Environment Agency and a commitment to the natural environment alongside
economic growth
A clear understanding
of the work, priorities and challenges of the Environment Agency and the
context within which it operates. A strong dedication to aligning the
Environment Agency’s environmental goals with the broader government growth
mission, driven by a genuine interest in protecting and improving the
environment and supporting sustainable development.
2. Effective Stakeholder
Engagement: Collaboration, Relationship-Building, and Communication
Strong communication
and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong stakeholder
relationships, including with Ministers, Senior Government officials and
external stakeholders. The ability to work closely with the non- executive
board and other key stakeholders, providing support, constructive challenge and
assurance as appropriate.
3. Strategic Leadership
and Change Management experience
A strong track record
in relevant senior leadership roles, alongside a proven record of delivery on
major infrastructure projects or service delivery at a national scale within
the private, public or voluntary sectors. The ability to set strategic vision
and drive forward priorities of high-profile organisations under scrutiny,
driving change while maintaining high-quality services and inspiring diverse
teams.
4. Commercial and
Financial Acumen
A commercial mindset.
An understanding of regulation and how it can support sustainable economic
growth. A strong understanding or experience of public sector finances or the
financial management of a large organisation.
5. Integrity and
Governance
A commitment to
upholding the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and impartiality.
Able to ensure effective governance, promote accountability, and drive
efficiency across the organisation.
6. Judgement
Effective
decision-making skills with the ability to critically analyse a wide range of
information to make clear and objective evidence-based recommendations to
support the delivery of the organisation's objectives.
