Vacancy Description

Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust is among the UK’s busiest and most successful providers of healthcare services, with a long history of providing high-quality care, clinical excellence, research and innovation.

The NHS is facing a broad range of unprecedented challenges, both financially and operationally, which means strong leadership is more important than ever. In this context, the Trust is looking for a senior and highly-qualified individual with significant experience in the delivery and oversight of clinical operations and performance to join the Board as a non-executive director. Essential criteria for the role includes:

  • Significant experience of operating at Board level in a large and complex organisation;
  • A proven track record of delivering operational and quality improvement, ideally within an NHS setting; and
  • Demonstrable ability to support and accelerate collaborative working with key external stakeholders including partner trusts and national bodies.

In particular, the appointee will use their skills and experience to support the Trust to achieve and exceed pre-pandemic levels of elective activity as quickly and safely as possible, to meet all national operational standards and expectations including urgent and emergency care, cancer and diagnostics, and to continue to improve the quality of the care the Trust provides.

Working for our organisation

As a non-executive director you will be required to provide an independent viewpoint, constructive challenge and support for executive directors, as well as to use your specific skills and experience to support decision-making at a Board level.

The Trust lays considerable emphasis on diversity and equality at Board level and would welcome applications from appropriately-qualified candidates from all parts of the community, including from those whose background, experience and identity will broaden and enhance a balance of perspectives in navigating the challenges we face going forward.
