Vacancy Description
IMEG’s role is to advise Min(DVRP) on medical and scientific aspects of the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS) and related matters. The IMEG are seeking a member to represent the ex-Service organisations. The Chair and the Members of the IMEG have a collective responsibility for the operation of the committee. They must:
- engage fully in collective consideration of the issues, taking account of the full range of relevant factors, including any guidance issued by the sponsor department or the responsible minister;
- ensure that the code of Practice on Access to Government Information (including prompt responses to public requests for information) is adhered to;
- agree and produce an Annual Report;
- respond appropriately to complaints, if necessary with reference to the sponsor department; and
- ensure that the committee does not exceed its powers or functions.
Person Specification
The successful candidate must:
- be a senior representative of a COBSEO-affiliated ex-Service organisation specialising in veterans’ welfare, with the support of their organisation’s Chairman/President/Director;
- demonstrate their ability to represent the views of all veterans and their families;
- have experience working collaboratively on high level committees or at board level;
- demonstrate excellent communication skills and team-work; and
- be a British citizen.
The successful candidates should also:
- have an interest in Armed Forces pension and compensation schemes; and
- have experience working on an advisory body.
Additional Information
Meetings are usually held at Ministry of Defence offices in London with some UK travel.
MoD will reimburse reasonable travel and subsistence expenses.
The appointment will be for a preiod of 3 years starting in 2017.
