Vacancy Description

We have a number of Associate Non-executive Director vacancies at Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust. These are exceptional opportunities to share your talents and expertise to make a positive difference to the people of Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

Our new Associate Non-Executive Directors will join a cohesive, engaged and inspiring Board focused on putting patients, their families and our people at the heart of all our strategic decisions. We are seeking inspirational and inclusive leaders who can bring a strong understanding of good governance, a patient focus and positive energy to challenge and support our Board.

Associate Non-Executive Director roles are used successfully in the NHS to support a Board succession strategy and also to achieve a balance of Board level skills.

Successful candidates for the Associate role will also be considered for appointment as a voting Non-executive Director of the Board in future when vacancies arise. We are seeking to appoint Associate Non-executive Directors at this point but we anticipate that we will have substantive Non-executive Director vacancies in the near future.

Person Specification

You will need to have a genuine commitment to patients and the promotion of excellent health care services.  You will have senior and relevant experience in one or more of the following:

  • Financial experience in a complex organisation
  • HR/Change Management experience. Experience of leading organisational and cultural change to achieve performance improvement
  • Experience gained in public, voluntary, community or charity sectors with experience of either workforce development, strategic planning, finance, risk, performance management or service development
  • Strong track record in partnership working across a range of stakeholders

You will need to be able to demonstrate you can use your experience to:

  • work alongside other non-executives and executive colleagues as an equal member of the board
  • bring independence, external perspectives, skills and challenge to strategy development
  • hold the executive to account by providing purposeful, constructive scrutiny and challenge 
  • shape and actively support a positive and compassionate culture for the trust

All non-executive directors must champion the standards of public life – by upholding the highest standards of conduct and displaying the principles of selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty, and leadership. 

As a future NHS leader, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the range of behaviours required to contribute effectively in this board level role.  These are outlined in the NHS Leadership Academy’s Healthcare Leadership Model
