Vacancy Description
Background
The National Lottery Community Fund’s core purpose is to support people and communities thrive. This is delivered through its Strategic Framework, People in the Lead.
The National Lottery Community Fund is the largest funder of community activity in the UK – every year we distribute around £600m of funding raised by players of The National Lottery. In England in 2018/19 we awarded £370m of funding. This included: £80m to grassroots community organisations through our National Lottery Awards for All programme (making awards up to £10,000); £220m on flexible grants over £10,000 that support communities to take action on issues that are important to them (through our Reaching Communities programme); £20m on funding partnership projects that bring organisations together around a place or theme; £15m on longer-term strategic interventions; and £30m matching funds from the European Social Fund to invest in local projects tackling the root causes of poverty.
A new chair of the England Funding Committee, who will also sit as a member of the Board, is sought. This is an exciting moment as the England portfolio priorities – early action, safe and happy communities, and places and spaces – are brought to life through greater local working and deeper external engagement, and as a series of legacy funds begin to bear fruit in terms of learning and impact.
This is mirrored Fund-wide as the organisation has gone through a period of investment and development, making it well placed to deliver our ambitious plans to achieve the Fund’s purpose: supporting people and communities thrive. The Fund has many of the building blocks in place and strives to learn, innovate and continuously improve in order to add even greater value to civil society and public life. Our contribution is as varied as it is vital.
Through our funding and catalytic role we develop deeper and broader relationships at both local and national level; sharing insights and telling the story of our impact, and we continue to champion the extraordinary work of communities throughout the UK.
The organisation
The National Lottery Community Fund is established as a non-departmental public body by an Act of Parliament. The Board is responsible for the overall strategic direction of the Fund, as set out in its Strategic Framework, People in the Lead and for the Fund’s governance.
Funding decisions are delegated to five funding committees (UK, England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales) and to Executive Officers, with the Board retaining strategic oversight for delivery of the Fund’s strategic framework: People in the Lead, and governance responsibility.
Policy responsibility for The National Lottery Community Fund, including setting policy directions, rests with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and devolved administrations in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Further information about the Fund’s Strategic Framework People in the Lead and its programmes can be found on our website.
