Announcement

An announcement has been made on the outcome of this appointment.

Anthony Rutherford, Kate Brian, Margaret Gilmore, Yacoub Khalaf and Anita Bharacha have been re-appointed as members of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority, each for a second term of 3 years. Anthony and Kate’s second terms will start from 12 November 2017, and Margaret, Yacoub and Anita’s from 1 April 2018. Margaret is also deputy chair and Anita is chair of the Audit and Governance Committee.

The re-appointments will involve a time commitment of 3 days per month. Remuneration for the member roles will be at the following rates per annum: •member roles: £7,883 •deputy chair: £8,630 •Audit and Governance Committee chair: £13,137

These re-appointments are made in accordance with the Cabinet Office Code of Governance for Public Appointments. The regulation of public appointments against the requirements of this Code is carried out by the Commissioner for Public Appointments.

The re-appointments are made on merit and political activity played no part in the decision process. However, in accordance with the Code, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Kate Brian has declared that she has canvassed on behalf of a party or helped at elections for the Labour Party within the last 5 years.
