Vacancy Description
UK Government Investments (UKGI) is the government’s centre of excellence in corporate governance and corporate finance. The organisation works across government on some of its most interesting and complex commercial and financial tasks. It is responsible for promoting good governance of publicly owned businesses, supporting the government’s private sector interventions and delivering orderly transactions that generate value for money.
The role
UKGI are looking for two Non-Executive Directors to join the Board. The Board provides strategic direction and ensures UKGI is equipped to perform its functions, including having sufficient resourcing and a suitable organisational structure. The Board also enables effective arrangements to be put in place to provide assurance on risk management, governance and internal control.
Non-Executive Directors play a key role in helping the organisation to achieve its objectives by providing independent oversight and constructive scrutiny and challenge to the executive management team.
The successful applicants will be required to make informed decisions and effectively monitor the leadership team’s performance in delivering UKGI’s strategy.
The successful applicants will be expected to perform the duties diligently and to a standard commensurate with the requirements of the role.
We are looking to appoint two Non-Executive Directors, each with different skills and experience.
Candidate Profile 1 requires deep corporate finance skills and significant experience of large M&A transactions or equity and debt capital markets, whilst Candidate Profile 2 requires a background in corporate finance and experience of acting in a non-executive capacity on the boards of significant entities in the public, private or third sectors. Both profiles require board experience and a proven commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion.

Essential Experience
- Deep corporate finance skills gained in major financial institutions.
- Significant experience of large M&A transactions or equity capital markets and debt capital markets.
- Experience of working on boards in the public or private sector or, exceptionally, deep experience working with boards.
- Proven commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion.
Desirable Experience
- Direct experience of central government or experience of dealing with central government.
- A track record of leadership in a large or complex organisation.

- Ability to engage effectively with and influence diverse and high-profile stakeholders.
- Demanding and capable of holding highly experienced executive to account, with effectiveness underpinned by an empathetic approach.
- Ability to understand and promote UKGI culture and values.

Essential Experience
- Background in corporate finance, which may have been gained in the financial services sector, consultancy, or in-house finance roles.
- Experience of working in a non-executive capacity on the boards of significant entities in the public, private or third sectors or, exceptionally, deep experience working with boards.
- Proven commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion.
Desirable Experience – the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience of one or more of the following:
- Experience of leadership within central government or experience of dealing with central government at the most senior levels.
- A track record of leadership in a large or complex organisation.
- Substantial commercial experience at senior executive level in a major company.
- Corporate governance experience gained in major listed entities.
- Leadership in the private equity sector.
- Senior role such as partner in the restructuring and insolvency advisory sector.

Additional Information
The successful candidates will need to demonstrate excellent senior stakeholder management skills; strong judgement and influencing skills; high numeracy in financial scenarios; the ability to offer solutions to complex problems; enthusiasm; commitment and an ability to think strategically and imaginatively.
