Vacancy Description

The work of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) is critical to the country, for this and future generations, and being a Board member is a unique opportunity to make a nationally significant contribution.

The NDA’s mission is to safely and securely clean-up the UK’s nuclear legacy across its 17 sites, reducing risks previously considered so complex and dangerous that it was not clear how they might be overcome. Its 120-year mission is one of the UK’s largest liabilities, and the group’s 16,000 people and estates are home to the UK’s most challenging technical problems, as well as its greatest engineering prowess

The NDA sets the overall strategy for decommissioning and waste management across its sites and performance manages its group of delivery businesses – such as Sellafield – with the aim of maximising value to the taxpayer. The Board provides effective leadership and strategic direction to the NDA.

The NDA is seeking an exceptional non-executive Board member to join its Board and chair one of its important Board committees, the Programmes and Projects Committee. Board members provide oversight of the NDA and work with government, regulators and other key stakeholders to shape the organisation’s strategy, and play a leading role in developing the organisation to deliver its challenging mission in a better way.

As Programmes and Projects Committee Chair you will have knowledge and experience of major projects and large-scale programme/project management expertise.
