An announcement has been made on the outcome of this appointment.

Tariq Kazi has been appointed as a member of the Leasehold Advisory Service Board from 24 April 2017 and Victoria Elvidge has been appointed as a member of the Leasehold Advisory Service Board from 1 August 2017. Both members have been appointed for 3 years.

Vacancy Description

The Leasehold Advisory Service (LEASE) is an Executive Non – Departmental Public Body, whose main purpose is to provide information and initial legal advice on problems or issues relating to leasehold housing in England and Wales, and also park homes in England. Customers include leaseholders, managing agents, landlords, valuers, lawyers, park home owners, park home site owners, local authorities, and others. LEASE provides its services through the internet, by email and letter, by telephone and face-to-face, and by outreach surgeries in the field.

The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government is seeking to appoint two new Members to the LEASE Board over an exciting three year term. The successful candidates will be able to assist the Chair and Board of six, in providing strategic direction to LEASE, including in respect of its commercial activities and achieving commercial outcomes. By serving on the board of a public body, the successful candidate will play a vital role in in the life of the country, by making decisions to improving the delivery of a key public service.

The role is ideal for someone with strong financial background and/ or legal experience in the residential leasehold sector, sound judgement, and decision making skills, together with strong inter-personal and communication skills The successful candidate will also be able to act with integrity and impartiality, whilst having an ability to handle issues which may be politically sensitive.

Reasonable travel and subsistence and other expenses necessarily incurred on business will be payable in accordance with LEASE guidelines.

Person Specification

Candidates will be assessed against the following criteria:

Essential Criteria:

  1. The ability to provide leadership, with evidence of sound judgement, decision making and successful delivery.
  2. The ability to contribute to the achievement of commercial outcomes within a business model that also provides free advice service.
  3. Have a financial background with proven expertise in financial & risk management and/ or legal experience in the residential leasehold sector.
  4. An understanding of the role of a Board and corporate governance, and the need to work in an open, transparent and accountable way.
  5. The ability to communicate strongly and contribute effectively to Board discussions, challenge appropriately and influence at senior levels.
  6. Ability to work in partnership with others at all levels. Experience of participating in a Board or other governance environment.

Desirable Criteria:

  1. Knowledge and/or experience of the housing sector (particularly issues that affect residential leasehold sector).
