Vacancy Description
As a Board Member, you are expected to:
- Provide independent advice, monitoring and scrutiny of, the youth justice system;
- Support the maintenance of a strong working relationship between the YJB and its partner organisations,
- Scrutinise and challenge the YJB executive; and
- Be an effective ambassador for the YJB in promoting a distinct Youth Justice system country wide
Eligibilty
- There must be no employment restrictions, or time limit on your permitted stay in the UK. You should normally have been resident in the United Kingdom for at least three years prior to your application; and
- You should not be employed in the UK civil service.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Candidates will be able to demonstrate the following:
- Experience of/ability to engage and work with a range of diverse stakeholders including those at senior levels; exceptional interpersonal and communication skills;
- Experience of analysing complex information and making evidence based sound judgements which lead to practical and sound recommendations;
- Proven ability to drive forward reform, and to challenge and be innovative in your approach. An ability to promote solutions and bring innovative approaches in doing do;
- A strong commitment to equality of opportunity and a clear understanding of the factors that can transform the lives of the most vulnerable young people;
- A strong commitment to helping young people achieve their potential, and supporting children who have offended to get their lives back on track.
Desirable criteria:
- Evidence of valuing and promoting diversity; and
Experience of one or more of the following areas:
- Working in the voluntary and community sector with a solid understanding of the needs of disadvantaged young people;
- Working in the public sector delivering services to children and young people;
- Academic or opinion-former specialising in youth justice;
- Advocating or representing the voice and needs of children and young people; and
- Working in the judicial system, perhaps as a Magistrate.
Additional Information
For successful candidates, confirmation of appointment will be subject to basic clearance and CTC checks, covering confirmation of identity and right to work in the UK plus a criminal record check. This will involve completion of several paper and electronic forms and can take up to twelve weeks to process.
