Announcement

An announcement has been made on the outcome of this appointment.

NHS England is pleased to announce the appointment of Lynda Thomas CBE as Chair of Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust from 1 February 2023 to 31 January 2026. She will receive a remuneration of £43,000 per annum and has declared no political activity in the last five years.

Vacancy Description

Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust (NCH&C) serves a population of nearly 900,000 people, delivering a wide range of community services for adults, children, young people, and families. Working across more than 70 different service locations throughout Norfolk, they believe that people are better looked after locally and this drives them to bring their expert care to patients in their seven community hospitals, GP surgeries, specialist clinics and their own homes.

Rated as ‘Outstanding’ by their regulator, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in June 2018, the Trust is focused on continuous improvement and operational excellence in terms of both quality and access to care.  They are a member of Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care System (ICS) and work alongside the local and regional health and social care system to ensure that people can live as healthy a life as possible.

NCH&C’s vision is “to improve the quality of people’s lives, in their homes and community, by providing the best in integrated health and social care.” Their ambition is to continue providing outstanding care to their service users, whilst becoming a systems leader and nationally recognised provider of integrated health and care. Their values are community, compassion and creativity. These are incredibly important to them and that they run through the Trust and are held closely by their staff.

This continues to be a challenging time for the Trust’s workforce, patients, and population. They know that the NHS must continue to adapt and improve its services and as a Trust they must provide visible leadership and an organisational pursuit of excellence to achieve compassionate, co-ordinated, and personalised quality care that is safe and effective. They must also empower and educate their patients and their carers in the effective delivery and management of their own independence, health and wellbeing,

We are now seeking a new Chair to help the Trust build on their strong foundation and lead them to achieving their vision. This is a rare leadership opportunity and that has the chance to impact positively on the communities of Norfolk and the surrounding areas.

Person Specification

The Chair will require outstanding leadership qualities, compassion for staff, service users and their families, and a passion for the work of the Health and Social care sector. You will have a track record of inspiring organisations to excel in delivery, be that in the health sector or a different environment. As an experienced leader, you will understand the challenges of leading a complex public facing organisation. Skilled at working with executive teams with a focus on performance, quality and improvement, you will enjoy engaging and working collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure that the Trust supports effectively the development of the ICS and works in partnership with all parts of the health and social care sector in their area.

If you have this experience and a passion for improving the lives of patients, families and carers, across our communities then we would be delighted to hear from you.

We want our Board to be as inclusive and diverse as possible, so will look for individuals who bring lived experience that equips them both for the leadership aspects of the role but also brings an understanding of some of the challenges of NCH&C’s local communities. Preference will be given to candidates who live in or near areas to which the Trust provides services.

We value and promote diversity and are committed to equality of opportunity for all and appointments made on merit. We believe that the best boards are those that reflect the communities they serve.

We particularly welcome applications from women, people from the local black and minority ethnic communities, and disabled people who we know are under-represented in chair and non-executive roles.

Our recruitment processes are conducted in accordance with the Code of Governance to ensure that they are made on merit after a fair and open process so that the best people, from the widest possible pool of candidates, are appointed.
