Vacancy Description
L1948
We are looking for an exceptional leader to chair North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of local services by sharing your talents and expertise to help transform the hospital and make a positive difference to your community.
Person Specification
This is a unique opportunity to share your talents and expertise to lead North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust (NMUH) and make a positive difference to the lives of people in your community.
The Chair will provide the leadership needed to drive the continued improvement of the healthcare services the Trust provides its patients and the local community, both now and in the future.
There will be many challenges along the way, but the most challenging roles are often the most rewarding. NMUH is one of London’s busiest acute hospitals, serving more than 350,000 people living in Enfield and Haringey and the surrounding areas, including Barnet and Waltham Forest. The hospital has been on its present site for over 100 years and was established as an NHS Trust by statute in December 1990.
Every day, on average, NMUH sees 500-plus patients in A&E; 14 babies are born in the maternity unit; about 450 inpatients are cared for on the wards; about 100 patients have major or minor surgery in one of the 8 operating theatres; and about 1,030 people attend the outpatients clinics.
Most of NMUH’s patients live in Enfield and Haringey – about half in each borough. One in eight are children under the age of 16. Over 40% are aged 16 to 50 and a similar number are over 50.
NMUH provides a full range of adult, elderly and children’s services across medical and surgical disciplines. NMUH’s specialist services include stroke, HIV/AIDS, cardiology (including heart failure care), haematology, diabetes, sleep studies, fertility and orthopaedics. The Trust’s sickle cell and thalassaemia department is nationally recognised as a leading centre for these diseases.
In addition to the full range of cancer diagnosis and treatment services, the Helen Rollason Cancer Support Centre is based on site and provides services to support cancer patients’ wellbeing, such as massage. This is one of only two such centres in London.
We are looking for candidates who want to use their energy, skills and experience to help drive the delivery of sustainable healthcare services for the people of North Middlesex. We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds who can apply their experience from different sectors, as well as from health, to this demanding role.
We value and promote diversity and are committed to equality of opportunity for all and appointments made on merit. We believe that the best boards are those that reflect the communities they serve.
We particularly welcome applications from women, people from the local black and minority ethnic communities, and disabled people who we know are under-represented in chair and non-executive roles.
Our recruitment processes are conducted in accordance with the Code of Governance to ensure that they are made on merit after a fair and open process so that the best people, from the widest possible pool of candidates, are appointed.
