Vacancy Description
An Independent Member (Capital and Estates) is required for Powys Teaching Health Board.
Candidates must have an understanding of Project and Estate Management principles, Information Governance, the health issues and priorities in Powys and the role and work of a board.
The new Independent Member will be required to participate as a full member of the Board setting the strategy for the organisation. In addition, the new Independent Member will be expected to constructively challenge, to participate actively in the decision-making process of the Board, and to scrutinise the performance of the Executive in meeting agreed goals and objectives.
Person Specification
It is Essential that Independent Members will demonstrate the following qualities:-
Knowledge & Experience
- An understanding of health issues and priorities in the Health Board’s area and the ability to understand the role and work of the Board;
- Ability to hold the executives to account for performance whilst maintaining a constructive relationship;
- Ability to provide a knowledgeable, impartial and balanced perspective on a range of sensitive and complex issues;
- A broad understanding of the information governance requirements required to comply with legislation e.g. Data Protection Act (DPA);

- Awareness of the need to critically appraise capital investment business cases;
- Understanding of the principles of effective project management;
- Understanding of the principles of sound Estate Management and its effect on the efficient delivery of health care; and
- An awareness of the sustainability/climate change agenda.
