Remuneration
The roles are remunerated at a daily rate of £250 (unless you already receive a salary for full-time work paid from public funds in which case there is no additional salary). Remuneration is taxable and subject to Class I National Insurance contributions. Reasonable standard travel expenses will be payable. The posts are not pensionable.
Time Requirements
Around three days per month.

Vacancy Description

The role of a Board Member is to: o Provide strategic direction for the YJB in fulfilling its statutory function to provide independent advice on, and monitoring and scrutiny of, the youth justice system; o Engage with stakeholders across the youth justice system to meet the organisation’s corporate aims; o Scrutinise and challenge the YJB executive; and o Act as an Ambassador for the YJB in promoting a distinct Youth Justice system countrywide.

Person Specification

Essential criteria o Effective leadership skills with experience of/ability to engage with a range of diverse stakeholders including those at senior levels and exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; o Experience of analysing complex information and making sound judgements based on evidence, leading to practical recommendations; o Proven ability to bring about reform, and to challenge and be innovative in your approach. An ability to promote solutions and bring learning from new fields; and o A strong commitment to equality of opportunity and a clear understanding of the factors that can turn around the lives of the most vulnerable young people.

Experience specific criteria: To ensure a balance of expertise within the Board and to achieve the YJB’s challenging objectives, Board Members should have experience in one or more of the following areas; o Working in the voluntary and community sector with a firm understanding of the needs of disadvantaged young people; o Working at a senior level in the public sector delivering services to children and young people; o Senior business private sector experience in commissioning and / or delivering public services and of securing efficiency savings whilst improving outcomes; o Academic or opinion-former specialising in youth justice; o Advocating or representing the voice and needs of children and young people; and o Experience and knowledge of commissioning and / or delivery of health care services that meet the needs of children and young people in community and custodial settings – including mental health, language and communication and substance misuse arrangements.

Member with experience of the youth justice system in Wales In addition to the areas listed above; o Experience of working within the devolved administration in Wales.
