An announcement has been made on the outcome of this appointment.
Baroness Dido Harding has been appointed as Chair of NHS Improvement for 4 years from 30 October 2017.
The appointment will involve a time commitment of 2 to 3 days per week. Remuneration for the role will be at a rate of £63,000 per annum.
This appointment is made in accordance with the Cabinet Office Code of Governance for Public Appointments. The regulation of public appointments against the requirements of this code is carried out by the commissioner for public appointments.
The appointment is made on merit and political activity played no part in the decision process. However, in accordance with the code, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Baroness Harding has taken the Conservative Whip in the House of Lords since taking her seat in 2014. She is also married to John Penrose, Conservative MP for Weston Super Mare.

Vacancy Description
The Secretary of State for Health is seeking to appoint a Chair to the board of NHS Improvement.
NHS Improvement is responsible for overseeing foundation trusts and NHS trusts, as well as independent providers that provide NHS-funded care. NHS Improvement offers the support these providers need to give patients consistently safe, high quality, compassionate care within local health systems that are financially sustainable. By holding providers to account and, where necessary, intervening, NHS Improvement helps the NHS to meet its short-term challenges and secure its future.
NHS Improvement brings together Monitor, the NHS Trust Development Authority (TDA), and patient safety and improvement functions from across the NHS framework, under one single leadership and operating model, and a single board. The chair of NHS Improvement will be formally appointed to both Monitor and the TDA.
Person Specification
Successful candidates will have experience in leading high-performing, large organisations, including through periods of significant change, along with the ability to operate in a highly complex, fast moving environment. Candidates will also have the ability to facilitate, support and develop executive performance and have a demonstrable commitment to the needs of patients and the public.

The Secretary of State for Health will make the appointment, which will be for up to a maximum of four years.
