Vacancy Description
L1272
We are looking for an exceptional leader to take on one of the most challenging roles in the NHS today. Barts is a huge organisation with a national profile, and requires a Chair that can drive rapid and sustainable improvements in quality and finance in the largest trust in the NHS. Recognising the scale of the quality and financial challenges and the urgency of the task, the Chair will need to work hard both within the Trust and with partner organisations to drive the change agenda and ensure that the rest of the Trust leadership team does the same.
This is a unique opportunity for the right person to share their talents and expertise to help ensure that Barts provides the high quality and sustainable services that will make a profound difference for patients and the local community. The Chair role demands an exceptional candidate who can think creatively about the problems the Trust faces, and bring rigour, drive and energy needed to turn it around. There will be many challenges to face, but the most challenging roles are often the most rewarding.
Person Specification
Candidates will be very experienced board level leaders who have worked effectively in large and complex organisations and in particular, they will be able to demonstrate:
- experience of leading major financial, performance and quality turnarounds supported by excellent governance and financial skills ;
- considerable experience of building and developing strong and effective teams and providing robust and visible leadership in a range of public facing, highly charged and challenging environments;
- the ability to work effectively with multiple internal and external stakeholders, to secure commitment to a shared strategic vision; and
- a strong understanding of the public health agenda, particularly for east London, and the challenges facing NHS healthcare providers.
We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds who can apply their experience from different sectors, as well as from health, to this demanding role.
